A red opaque curtain on the creamy front cover is wrapped in a translucent dust jacket. The collection’s theme is immediately apparent and the book design aids in communication. A black & white brick building in disassembly and full page spread of two pairs of dirty soles is followed by pink flower petals landing on a vibrant green landscape. The remainder of the book is largely monochrome with subtle images of modest saturation. A beautiful example is of voluminous tulle cast in blue shadow and yellow light.
The photographs in Arsenault’s book represent change. We see modulation, erosion, and patinas. Resurfacing is not always destruction or repair. It could be donning a plain t-shirt to prepare yourself for the day. Or it could be wrinkled bedsheets against morning sun. Each photo is a contemplative motif to examine evolutions in unconsidered places.
